These screengrabs are from his Vancouver video for EF International Learning Centres.

These are three of my favourites from the Vancouver video, but to be honest the entire thing is beautiful, so do check it out!

Recently I’ve started to redraw the Gatecrasher typeface that TDR (probably) did for all their promotional work for the club. So far I’ve done all the letters I can do with the material I’ve been able to find, which is pretty much any of the promo material/discs/cd cases/vinyl covers and posters that I own and have found on Google. I’ve hit a snag though in that there is never really any capital letters used on the designs (thanks TDR and your love of lowercase stuff!) so I’m either going to have to second-guess the capital forms or look for any extra stuff I can get my hands on.
I have a hunch that the wipeout typefaces TDR used will likely be made up of the same forms, as the typefaces don’t look too dissimilar from each other.

I will be updating this blog over the next few days as a lot has happened over the last two months since my last post, so expect to hear more soon!

Oh, and just as a headsup, I won’t be releasing it to anyone except friends when I do actually get around to making this into a working typeface – just for copyright issues and whatever else might end up going balls.

Placement Review: MadebyShape

Recently I have completed a work placement at MadebyShape. During my time I worked with the team on a variety of projects, from designing the layout of an upcoming studio project - from research to final design stage, to working on character illustrations for a children’s sporting venture. Having never really done much illustration work in my time at college and university the experience was great! It proved to myself that I was capable of producing work of value in a different than my norm category.

The team are a great laugh and a really inspiring bunch, they answered any questions I had and gave me some great advice for moving along in this industry given the current economic status - they also kept me fed on a supply of crumpets!

A big thank you to Andy, Jason and Jamie for making me feel so welcome!

I stumbled across the work of Benoit Berger a month or two back now. I’ve neglected blogging recently and meant to put this up when I found it.

The quality of his work & portfolio is outstanding - every piece of work is different and interesting in its own way. With this example I love how simple the foldout is; the giant word scale emphasizes exactly that - the scale of the word compared to everything is. I’m unsure of the printing method he has used for the word scale but I love the silky, gritty look it has as shown in the close ups.

Make sure you check his work portfolio here - benoitberger.fr

I always find describing what I do and what interests me to people quite a difficult thing....

I always find describing what I do and what interests me to people quite a difficult thing. There’s no one defined way of describing graphic design as a practice, other than pretty much ‘everything.’
When I saw this in HMV a few weeks ago however I knew I’d stumbled across one of those pieces you can just relate to — everything about this is what I like about graphic design; the colours, the geometric shapes, the composition, the typography, the photography - everything!

You can read more about the process behind the design over on the September Industry blog where I also got these images from (which are also slick, like everything on the SI blog).
